About me
Optimist, creative thinker, and lifelong learner with an unrelenting determination to develop big-picture ideas and the perfect pancake.
Hi, my name is Matthew Peters and I’m a digital marketer from Southern California running on late night cereal and irrational optimism. I got my professional start back in 2014 and haven’t looked back since. I love to design and I love websites. My friends would say I am obsessed with advertising and web design, but I say, since when did an obsession with design kill anyone? I welcome new challenges with open arms and am a man of simple taste. I strongly believe that attitudes are contagious and, like Jackie Robinson, believe that “A life is not important except in the impact it has on others.” I keep that in mind and incorporate it into everything that I do.
Random things about me…
I have an unusual obsession with a great fitting t-shirt and I always try to do things in increments of five. I’ve traveled to 13 different countries, I used to play video games like I got paid to do it (especially Starcraft), and at one point I almost started my own clothing line. I am a sucker for cheesy jokes, I listen to Freakonomics podcast regularly, and in another life I would’ve become an air force pilot. I’ve watched the Lord of the Rings trilogy at least 100 times and I secretly love McDonalds – having tried it now in 12 countries (nobody’s perfect).
I am weirdly good at memorizing phone numbers, my favorite number is 15, and growing up I wanted to be a sports commentator. Also, I’m willing to guess that I’ve visited over 2,500 websites in my life.
My design philosophy
Be humble.
Any good project starts off by working with a team and interacting with users. I truly believe that humility is the most valuable asset a designer can have. Designs cannot be driven by one’s emotional attachment to an idea.Be instinctive.
Seamless user experiences are easy to follow and should not make the user work. As a designer, I focus on creating experiences that accommodate users’ interactions and responses, rather than creating new ones.
Be bold.
Design courage is a key factor in making big changes in the design world. Keeping simplicity and UX in mind, I aim to create visual imagery, text, and style guides that engage your audience and give your brand a voice.
My m.o.
Make real connections and a difference wherever I go by listening and learning about people’s lives around me.
My favorite quote
"You can't change the world, but you can make a corner of it pretty nice." — William Chapelle
